CAMRA Commences Local Pub Support Scheme
For the next few months, in fact until the end of November the Campaign for Real Ale is looking to support some of the more isolated pubs in Essex, UK. In fact the ancient town of Colchester is the starting point of this attempt to provide some much needed custom for some of the more rural pubs.
It’s called Real Ale Runabouts and the plan is for the Colchester branch of CAMRA to provide a minibus to ferry up to 16 drinkers per night to five pubs in the district, stopping at each pub for about an hour. The next night the route will take in five different pubs in the area. This part of Essex has some of most picturesque pubs and countryside in the country but this hasn’t stopped the closure of many in recent years and others continue to struggle.
One of the regions pubs, The Donkey and Buskins run by David Kearns, is on the list if visits and David says that:
“The rural pubs need to be supported a lot more than the town centre pubs. Every pub out there is fighting to survive.”
For more information regarding dates and routes, please visit www.colchestercamra.org.uk and there’ll be booking information and phone numbers. Pre-booking is essential for these outings so instead of heading out for your Casino Bonus or Playtech Slots session, give one of these trips a try if you’re in the area.
No Beer At The Royal Wedding
We’d heard about it beforehand but it’s still disappointing when you find out it’s actually true – like when a Roulette Systeme doesn’t go according to plan. Royal organisers appear to have gone out of their way to demonise beer by specifically announcing that none was going to be served at the wedding celebrations.
Beer, the world’s oldest alcoholic drink and a staple of the British economy, has been described as ‘inappropriate’ by some jobsworth. Perhaps the various royal logos should be removed from the beers which currently carry it or maybe the assorted royals could show some support for one of the last great British manufacturing industries.
